Styling For Summer

Your summer essentials all in one spot

The ever changing climate will also have a great influence on your fashion choices, shifting from season to season. When it comes to styling for summer, it’s not just about the look. Because of the Australian burning sunrays and scorching hot weather - factors such as sun protection clothing, breathability and practicality all need to be taken into consideration.

Here, we break down why each of these factors are so important, and also provide a couple of stylish summer essentials crafted by our team. We guarantee that these looks will be your go-to this season, and beyond!

UPF50+ Sun Protection

You can’t style for summer without thinking about sun protection. With the rise of skin damage and skin cancer it is more important than ever to protect your skin against the sun’s harmful rays. Sun protective clothing acts as a barrier between you and the sun's rays, similar to sunscreen. Here at Bamboo Body, we take pride in making sure our sun safe clothing is tested and certified by Australian Government Agency, ARPANSA. All our UPF 50+ garments have been awarded the maximum UPF 50+ sun protection rating, meaning they offer broad spectrum protection that blocks 98% of UVA and UVB rays.

It is recommended to wear lightweight, long sleeve clothing in darker colours. Protection against UV radiation is more effective when the fabric is tightly woven and doesn’t get wet. Long sleeves in the summer time though, is this even practical? As long as the fabric is breathable and made of the correct composition you should feel fine in a modest look for summer, bringing us to our next point - breathability.

Breathability Factor

Breathability is all about the fabric you choose. This is where you will realise that synthetics are not going to cut it. Notice how you feel all hot and sweaty in your cheap yet affordable polyester tee? A natural fabric will save you this summer, we promise you! Some of the best fabrics for breathability in the summertime include cotton, linen, silk, and of course bamboo. Summer fabric don’t’s include polyester, rayon, denim, fleece and leather. Modest, long sleeve pieces that protect you from the sun's rays in the summer need to have a high breathability factor if you're going to survive. This is why we love our bamboo fabric.

Studies show that bamboo clothing is more breathable than cotton and its moisture wicking properties help keep your body fresh and dry. That is why bamboo socks are so popular – Many people claim they can wear them for days on end and they still feel soft and comfortable. Bamboo clothing is lightweight and breathable making it ideal for hot weather.

Moisture Wicking

Moisture wicking properties in clothing help keep your body fresh and dry in the summer. These pieces aren't just meant for the gym. Moisture wicking fabric should feel light and airy and will keep you cool all day long. The perfect moisture wicking fabric is one that dries quickly when wet, as well as wicks away sweat and moisture from the fabrics other surface.

Silhouettes

Prepare with your most breathable silhouettes. Think v necklines, camisoles and a-line skirts. Opt for looser styles that flow and allow air to move around you. Feminine silhouettes such as puff sleeves and bouncy skirts are a must have, but an oversized button down will also do the trick. Pair back with classics such as a boat neckline, classic tee or summer shorts. Your capsule wardrobe will be stripped back to the summer essentials this season, so it is important to stock up on all the basics you need that you will also be able to layer in the winter time.

Extra Tips!

  1. Opt for light and bright colours and patterns: Summer is the perfect time to incorporate bright colours and bold patterns into your wardrobe. This will help you stand out and add a touch of fun to your look. Light colours will also reflect the suns rays and block out UV radiation.
  2. Accessorise: accessorise with other stylish sun protective pieces such as sunglasses, hats and sunnies to add some flair to your outfit. Just because it's harder to layer in the summertime does not mean that you can’t be cool and stylish. If you are one to layer, try pairing a lightweight tank top with a linen shirt, or pair pieces like a sundress over a swimsuit. For this season in particular accessories are a must to boost your look and add some personality.
  3. Choose comfortable footwear: comfort is key in the summer, so opt for sandals or sneakers that allow your feet to breathe.
  4. Have fun! Remember to have fun with your summer style and choose clothes that make you feel confident and comfortable.
