As we continue to explore the world of colour analysis, today we’re diving into another crucial aspect: contrast. You can check out our previous blogs on colour theory and cool and warm colour palettes. Understanding contrast is essential because it helps pinpoint your specific season. In this blog, we’ll compare two Bamboo Body team members, both Winters, but with different contrast levels, to see how it influences their style choices.

What is Contrast and how to define it
Contrast in colour analysis refers to the colour intensity of your facial features. High contrast typically means there's a significant difference between features, like very dark hair paired with very pale skin. However, it’s not just about this classic Snow White example. High contrast can also mean having striking dark hair, bright or dark eyes, and bright, white smile.
On the other hand, low contrast means the facial features are more similar in intensity. For example, pale skin with fair hair and light eyes creates a soft, low-contrast look. There's also a medium contrast, where features aren’t too dark and bright or too light, falling somewhere in between high and low contrast.
Low contrast - pale skin, light hair and eyebrows, light-coloured eyes
High contrast - dark hair, bright eyes.
Medium contrast - darker hair and eyebrows, but still soft features
High and Medium Contrast in Action: Elouise and Luana
Let’s take a closer look at two Bamboo Body team members, Elouise and Luana. After a colour analysis by Sylvia from Colour Me Coach , both were identified as Winters with cool skin undertones. However, they look quite different. How can they both belong to the Winter season and wear the Winter colour palette?
This is where the beauty of colour analysis comes into play. Despite sharing the same season, their colour palettes will vary depending on their contrast levels. Luana, with her high contrast, and Elouise, with her medium contrast, will have distinct palettes that highlight their unique features.
Elouise - medium contrast
Luana - high contrast
